Adopt-A-Family
The City of Chino Hills established the "Adopt-A-Family" Program in 2005 to assist families experiencing financial hardship or circumstances that may prevent them from providing food, clothing, and toys for their families during the holidays. Families qualify for the program through an application process. Residents, local businesses, and community groups are asked to "adopt" these families to provide them with the items they need so they may have a happy holiday season.
How to Apply
Each family must complete their application and submit the required paperwork. City staff will review the applications and select the families that qualify. Families will be notified, by email, of the status of their application.
How: Fill out an application and submit all required documents listed below. If you have any questions about the applications, please call the Recreation Office at (909) 364-2700.
Where: City Hall, Recreation Office, 14000 City Center Drive
When: Applications must be submitted by Monday, November 10. Applications must be submitted in person at the Chino Hills Recreation Office.
Adopt-A-Family Application (Spanish)
Required Paperwork
- 2024 Tax Form Schedule EIC or Birth Certificate(s) to identify dependents in your home
- Proof of income. Such as: two recent paycheck stubs, W-2 form, disability/unemployment paperwork or a CalWORKs benefits form (if you receive aid). A 1099 is required if you own a business.
- Proof of residence, such as a utility bill.
- Gift ideas for children in the family including clothing/shoe sizes, toys, household items, etc.
Important Information
Applicants must be current Chino Hills residents at the time of application and provide the requested information as outlined. Families who have been adopted for two years consecutively may not be placed in top priority. Acceptance is not based solely on income, as special circumstances will be considered.
Wish lists provided by qualified families will be used as a guideline for donors. Donors will be asked to prioritize the clothing needs of children under the age of 18, followed by any toy requests. Additional gifts for adult family members, such as parents or adult children 18 years and older, are optional and not guaranteed. Donors are asked to provide 4-6 items per child. Please do not request large items such as game consoles or large electronics. Personal information included on the application will not be shared with donors.
This program is for Chino Hills Families that are unable to provide food, clothing, and toys for their families this Christmas. We are asking families, local businesses, and community groups to "adopt" one or more of these families to provide them with the items they need so they may have a happy holiday season. If you are unable to adopt a family but would like to donate gift cards to be used to purchase gifts for a family, complete the online form and mail or drop off the gift card to the Chino Hills Community Center by Monday, December 15.
How It Works
You may choose to adopt a small, medium, or large-sized family. Once matched with a family, you will receive the family's holiday wish list no later than November 21 via email. To ensure equality among all adopted families, a minimum of four items and up to a maximum of six items per child will be accepted. An equal ratio between clothes and other items is requested (i.e. six total items are purchased, three of which are clothing, and the remaining three items are toys).
If you are unable to adopt an entire family but would like to help, we accept gift card donations to grocery stores, gas cards, etc. These will be distributed amongst all the families to help with groceries and other needs during the holidays.
Drop off Information
Where: McCoy Equestrian & Recreation Center, 14280 Peyton Drive
When: Monday, December 15, 2025
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Gifts will not be accepted before or after this date.
Online Donor Application
Applications are now live through Monday, November 17. Applications can be found here Online Donor Application
Important Tip
Please be sure when you purchase items on the wish list that the children's gifts are your priority. You are welcome to purchase gifts for the parents as well. Clothing is always a priority, as many of the families do not have proper shoes, socks, jackets, etc. for the winter months. We ask that you purchase new clothing and toys only. No used clothing or toys will be accepted. If you would like to donate food for the families, please purchase a gift card to a local grocery store. Canned goods and other food items are not permitted.
