[ARCHIVED] Alterra Park No Longer Closed - Reopened on Thursday, May 8th at 11:00 am

The Inland Valley Humane Society, along with the California Department of Fish & Game, and the USDA Wildlife Services has given the City the green light to reopen Alterra Park. The park was closed Monday, May 5th after a small child was bitten by a coyote at the park while playing in a sand box. Wildlife officers believe they removed the aggressive limping coyote, however, want to remind residents to remain extra cautious and vigilant. Alterra Park is less than a half mile from Chino Hills State Park, home to various wildlife and surrounded by public open space.
The record drought conditions in our open space areas have resulted in wildlife making their way into residential neighborhoods in search of food and water. Aggressive coyotes are a danger that must keep us vigilant and aware of our surroundings. Small children and pets MUST be supervised at ALL times, even in their own back yards, neighborhoods, and in all parks. If you find yourself near a coyote, make them uncomfortable by waving your arms and making a lot of noise. Always keep a safe distance from these animals.
Report all wildlife encounters to the Inland Valley Humane Society at (909) 623-9777.
