Garage, Yard, or Rummage Sale Permit

A permit is required for garage, yard, and rummage sales within the City of Chino Hills. Permits are issued free by the City.

How to Obtain a Permit

  • Complete the Temporary Sales Permit Application (PDF)
  • In person: Permits can be obtained at the Code Enforcement Counter, which is located on the second floor of City Hall.
  • Via email: Electronic permit applications may be emailed to codeenforcement@chinohills.org. Applications will be processed during normal business hours, Monday through Thursday.

Program Rules

A household can obtain up to three permits per any twelve-month period. Each permit is good for up to three consecutive days or two consecutive two-day weekends. There must be at least 60 days between each permit. Garage, yard, and rummage sales may be conducted only between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Friday - Sunday.

  • Only the applicant's own personally used property can be sold.  
  • No new merchandise, items made for boutiques, or items that have been acquired or consigned for the purpose of resale can be sold. 
  • The applicant may have one double-faced sign, not to exceed six square feet in area on their property (in the front yard, the sign can be four feet in height). This sign may be posted 24 hours prior to the sale and must be removed immediately following the sale.

No signs shall be placed on City Property. Signs in violation are billed at $ 45 a sign.
