Public Works

Department Overview
The Public Works Department has the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of water and sewer services; water quality; and maintenance of vehicles, streets, facilities, 45 parks, and 3,350 acres of publicly-owned open space. The Department has also garnered a number of awards including:

  • The Helen Putnam Award for the City's water conservation program
  • An American Public Works Association (APWA) Award for the weed abatement program that includes grazing sheep and goats to reduce fire fuel in the open space
  • An APWA Award for infrastructure repair after the El-Nino storms of 1998
  • An APWA "Project of the Year" Award for the McCoy Equestrian and Recreation Center
  • An APWA Award in recognition of the Department's National Public Works Week activities and events
